Giséle Ben-Dor's performances are receiving an overwhelming critical reception. The Uruguayan-born conductor's rapidly advancing and active career has included numerous performances with major orchestras in the U.S., Europe, Latin America, and Israel.
She returned to the New York Philharmonic in March '99 to unanimous praise, conducting Mahler and Beethoven without rehearsal, much as she did as a last-minute substitute for Kurt Masur in 1994, in music of Brahms and Mendelssohn. She has appeared with the Philharmonic on other occasions, including a three-hour concert marathon of contemporary British composers.
As Music Director of the Santa Barbara Symphony and the Boston Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, she has also garnered the highest praise from musicians, audience, and critics. At Tanglewood and at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival she shared the stage with Leonard Bernstein, and as winner of the Bartok Prize of Hungarian Television she toured several European countries. She made her conducting debut with the Israel Philharmonic in Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring, televised by the BBC/London.
